FUNCTIONS OF OPERATING SYSTEM

FUNCTIONS OF OPERATING SYSTEM Important functions of an operating system are: 1.  Security: the operating system uses password protection to protect user data and similar other techniques. It also prevents unauthorized access to programs and user data. 2.  Control over system performance: monitors overall system health to help improve performance, records the response time between service requests and system response to having a complete view of the system health. 3.  Job accounting: operating system keeps track of time and resources used by various tasks and users, this information can be used to track resources usage for a particular user or group of users. 4.  Error detecting data: the operating system constantly monitors the system to detect errors and avoid the malfunctioning of a computer system. 5.  Coordination between other software and users: operating system also coordinate and interpreters, compilers, assemblers, and other software to th...

EXAMPLES OF OPERATING SYSTEM

EXAMPLES OF OPERATING SYSTEM Whether we are using desktops, laptops, smartphones or other similar electronic devices, the first software we use after starting these devices is usually an operating system. 1.  Microsoft windows: in 1985, the first version of windows ( windows 1.0) was released as a GUI- based version or extension to MS-DOS. 2.  Android: android is currently the most popular operating system in the world based on the number of devices installed. Although android is primarily designed for mobile devices 9smartphone) and tablets. 3.  IOS: designed specifically for Apple mobile devices such as the iPhone, iPad (which has now its own iPadOS), and iPod Touch, iOS (formerly iPhone OS) is the second most popular and widely installed mobile operating system after Android. 4.  macOS: like windows, macOS is also a series of graphical operating system. The macOS is the second most used desktop operating system in the world after windows 5.  Chro...

OPERATING SYSTEM

OPERATING SYSTEM An operating system (0S) is a system software that manages computer hardware, software, resources and provides common services for computer programs. In addition, users can interact directly with the operating system through a user interface, such as a command-line interface (CLI) or a graphical user interface (GUI). For hardware functions such as input and output and memory allocation, the operating system acts as an intermediary between programs and the computer hardware. TYPES OF OPERATING SYSTEM 1.  Single-tasking and multi-user: a single tasking system can only run one program at a time, while a multi-tasking operating system allows more than one program to be running concurrently. This is achieved by time-sharing, where the available processor time is divided between multiple processes. 2.  Single and Multi-user: single-user operating system have no facilities to distinguish users but may allow multiple programs to run in random, while a multi-use...
